Passion quilt meme

Tamara Eden tagged me for this interesting educational passion quilt meme.

THE RULES:
Post a picture or make/take/create your own that captures what YOU are most passionate for kids to learn about
Give your picture a short title.
Title your blog post “Meme: Passion Quilt”
Link back to this blog entry.
Include links to 5 folks in your professional learning network

The picture I chose is a golden chain. In Jewish tradition, the concept of mesora is very important. It means passing on and refers to the way the oral tradition has been handed down throughout the generations. I want my students to learn that they are part of the chain of the generations of the world. This concept teaches them two important lessons:
a
1. Being part of that chain means having the obligation to learn from the past and respect the wisdom of older generations. At the same time, it stresses the need to focus on the future and to desire to make this world a better place.
a
2. Every piece of the chain is valuable. If one piece went missing, the entire chain would be broken. Through this idea, my students will learn concepts such as self-confidence and respect for others.
a
So, for me, the image of the chain sums up all major goals of being a teacher.
a
I would love to see which image these five bloggers will choose. They have been teaching me a lot about being a teacher this past blogging year:

Hi FT,

This is beautiful. What a beautiful concept! I almost posted photos of bridges and was going to write about "Gesher". Linking and bridging.

I think it's so fascinating how teachers who are Jewish bring values into the classroom. I see, when I look :) , how my Judaism informs my teaching. It's something I'm proud of and you should be too !

Although I've sort of sworn off memes recently, I think I'll participate in this one. However, you'll have to be patient, because I'm going to be taking my own picture in my classroom sometime this week. I'll let you know when I've posted.

I do like your golden chain and the way it links past, present, and future. We have so much to learn from all three!

I've been tagged, too, and I'm trying to find a suitable image to capture part of my passion about my calling. Give me a little time, but I'll post soon...

I enjoyed reading yours as soon as it was posted. Sorry I never had a chance to comment.

Thank you for your nice words on mine.

Thanks for the tag, FT.

Like CTG, I've avoided memes, but this one is very appealing -- simple, but deep.

I very much enjoyed reading about the Golden Chain.
